ABSTRACT

Human neutrophil elastase (hNE) is a serine proteolytic enzyme mainly distributed in neutrophils. When the balance between anti-hNE protein and hNE is broken, excessive release of hNE can cause the occurrence of various diseases. Therefore, inhibition of hNE is a promising therapeutic strategy. In this paper, the structure, action mechanism, physiological function of hNE and the development of hNE inhibitors were briefly summarized, in order to provide information for the related research.

ABSTRACT

Conventional oxygen therapy (COT) is generally provided through a low flow rate device including a nasal cannula or facemask. Since the benefits of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy in adults with acute respiratory failure (ARF) have firstly been demonstrated by Roca et al and because of its effectivity and comfort and good compliance, it has shown greater advantageous than COT and it has been increasingly used in adults with mild to moderate ARF and obtained very nice therapeutic effect. However, because of the specificity of emergency environment and the more complexity of HFNC system than COT, the use of HFNC in department of emergency is still controversial. Since HFNC system delivers oxygen by high-flow rate, the dilution of inspired oxygen concentration (FiO2) by room air can be maximally decreased, and the system can provide the highest flow rate up to 60 L/min, being greater than the patients' peak inspiration flow flow (PIF); the high flow rate can dilute the carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in the anatomical dead space, and the above several factors can guarantee that HFNC may deliver 0.21-1.00 relatively constant FiO2. Therefore, HFNC as a new noninvasive supplemental oxygen therapy has been increasingly widely studied and used in the adult patients with ARF. In this article, we will review the HFNC physiological effects and its advances in application for adult patients in department of emergency.

ABSTRACT

An experiment was conducted in Jataí, Goiás, Brazil, aiming to evaluate the effects of the application of pyraclostrobin at different times and with different application combinations in two simple hybrids of corn grown in the summer season. A randomized block design was adopted in a factorial 2 x 9 (hybrid x pyraclostrobinapplications) design, with 4 replications. The applications were performed in different combinations: presence or absence of pyraclostrobin + thiophanate methyl + fipronil (100 g a.i.100 kg seed-1) in seed treatment (V0) combined with pyraclostrobin (150 g a.i.ha-1) application before or after topdressing (V4 or V6) combined or not with pyraclostrobin + cyproconazole (137.25 g a.i.ha-1) application in pre-bolting (VT) and a control (without use of pyraclostrobin). The following evaluations were performed: activity of the nitrate reductase enzyme, chlorophyll index, plant height, corn cob insertion height, stem diameter, percentage of senescent leaves, severity of Puccinia polysora Underw, thousand grain weight, grains density, and grains yield. An F test was performed to analyze the significance, and for a means comparison, a Tukey test was used, both at 5% probability. Differences among hybrids were observed for most of the evaluated traits. There were no effects of the applications of pyraclostrobin and no interaction between the factors in question. It can, therefore, be concluded that there are not beneficial or deleterious effects of the application of pyraclostrobin at different times and with different application combinations in two simple hybrids of corn grown in the summer season.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Actively heated, humidified high flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy (HFNC) is a new type of oxygen therapy. Because of its unique physiological effects, the clinical application is becoming more and more popular. This article is to summarize the physiological effects, clinical application and short comings of HFNC. Compared with conventional oxygen therapy, HFNC helps to improve oxygenation better, and it is more comfortable than non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in use. Proper use of HFNC may be able to reduce the use of NIV and decrease the rate of endotracheal intubation. It can be used for adults with mild to moderate hypoxia, or for patients undergoing palliative care. However, the experience of the use of HFNC in adults is limited, and there is yet no corresponding clinical guideline. Therefore, further research with a large sample is required to determine the long-term effect of this technique, and to identify the adult patient population to whom is most beneficial.

ABSTRACT

The breast is a sign of female sexual identity. However, there are some anomalies that affect normal breast development. These abnormalities could have physiological, psychological and psychosocial effects on an individual and could result in the person developing a negative self image. Not much study on these anomalies has been carried out even though most people are likely to suffer from any one of these breast developmental abnormalities (BDA) than breast cancer. Awareness on these abnormalities is very low unlike breast cancer. Due to low awareness, people with this form of condition are not aware of measures available. Incidence of these anomalies could be high hence the need to educate people on these abnormalities. This review seeks to create the awareness on BDAs and the necessary interventions available.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this research was evaluate four seed treatments: water (T1), carbendazim + thiram (T2), fipronil + thiophanate methyl + pyraclostrobin (T3) and abamectin + thiamethoxam + fludioxonil + mefenoxan + thiabendazole (T4) on growth parameters of soybean plants with or without low water availability. The experiments were conducted under field conditions and greenhouse. In greenhouse, in treatments without low water availability, it was made four irrigations by day and in treatments with low water availability, it was made one irrigation each three days. In this trial, it was evaluated the plant height, root length, root volume, dry shoot weight, dry root weight and foliar area. In the field trial, low water availability was established by construction of low tunnels of polyethylene which prevented the water supply by irrigation and rain. In the field, it was also evaluated the plant height, the relative chlorophyll content, emergence, lesser cornstalk borer attack and grain yield. In the both environment, the plants were kept on stress until 28th days after emergence. In greenhouse, all the parameters were influenced by seed treatments with or without low water availability. In field, the treatment with fipronil + thiophanate methyl + pyraclostrobin (T3) and abamectin + thiamethoxam + fludioxonil + mefenoxan + thiabendazole (T4) promoted higher plant height and relative chlorophyll content in both hydric schemes, higher emergence and grain yield in plants without and with lower water availability, respectively. It was concluded that seed treatment with these products promote benefit changes in plant, increasing its tolerance to hydric stress, with positive effect on soybean grain yield.
